Did Jesus really rise from the dead?
Did Jesus Really Rise? (Part 1)
Why the Resurrection Still Matters—and Why You Can’t Ignore It
We want to be a church where people are welcome to ask real questions.
Not surface-level questions. Not safe questions.
But the ones you might normally keep to yourself. The ones you’d usually Google later or quietly wrestle with on your own.
Questions like this:
Did Jesus really rise from the dead?
That’s not a small question—that’s the question.
And if you’re skeptical, you’re not alone. The resurrection is just as unbelievable today as it was 2,000 years ago.
The First Followers Didn’t Expect It Either
Sometimes people assume that ancient people were naïve—that they believed anything. But the Bible doesn’t present the resurrection that way. In fact, it shows the opposite. When the women come to Jesus’ tomb, they aren’t expecting a miracle. They’re expecting a body. Even when they encounter an angel, they don’t just take his word for it! They have to go and see for themselves.
Even Jesus’ closest followers—those who heard Him predict His resurrection—didn’t believe it would actually happen. They knew what we know: dead people stay dead.
Why This Question Matters So Much
If the resurrection didn’t happen, Christianity falls apart. That’s not an overstatement. It’s what the Apostle Paul himself says: If Christ has not been raised, our faith is meaningless.
In other words: if the resurrection didn’t happen, none of this matters. Not church. Not sermons. Not spiritual inspiration. Not moral teaching.
You don’t need to wrestle with secondary questions about faith if this one isn’t settled. This is the foundation everything else stands on.
Common Explanations—and Why They Fall Short
Over the years, people have tried to explain away the resurrection. Here's some popular ones:
1. The Fraud Theory
2. The Swoon Theory
3. The Hallucination Theory
4. The Legend Theory
